Hi, I'm Fernando Arévalo.

I've spent more than 20 years working in communications, but over time I realized that what really interests me goes a little further: understanding how information and knowledge flow within organizations, how we share them, and, most importantly, how we make them useful.

​

My professional journey hasn't been entirely linear either. I studied architecture and ended up working in communications, knowledge management, and organizational learning. They may seem like very different worlds, but today I see quite a bit of logic in that journey. Architecture taught me to think about structures, relationships, people, and functionality. I still do something similar, only now I work with a different kind of structure: information, communication, and knowledge.

I've spent much of my career working with development organizations and international cooperation programs in Guatemala and across the region. This has given me the opportunity to work on very different projects, collaborate with diverse teams, and see time and again that producing more information doesn't necessarily mean communicating better, and storing documents doesn't mean managing knowledge.

​

I'm curious, I like asking questions, and I have a certain tendency to make things complicated while trying to make them simpler. Maybe that's why I particularly enjoy taking something complex, making sense of it, and turning it into something other people can understand, share, and use.
